As a reseller, when you log in to WHM and click “List Accounts,” then attempt to access a cPanel using the icon link:

WHM list accounts click cPanel

You will receive a warning message:

capture2

The message is a notice that you have logged in as the root owner (reseller) and not as the cPanel owner.

This can be a problem when:

You are attempting to use phpMyAdmin in your client’s cPanel
cPanel restricts access to phpMyAdmin to the actual cPanel user, preventing the root user or reseller from accessing the tool. To gain access, log directly into the client’s cPanel with the client cPanel username and password.

A cPanel user has the same password as the root owner or reseller
If a cPanel user on a reseller account receives the message “You are logged in with the reseller or root password,” it means the client’s password is the same as the root owner or reseller’s password. If this happens, change the reseller WHM password.

As a GreenGeeks reseller hosting customer, the nameservers for your customer’s domains will be default GreenGeeks DNS. If you prefer to use nameservers on your own domain (like ns1.ggexample.com), you can set the default nameservers in WebHost Manager (WHM).

Note that making these changes affects future account setups. Pre-existing accounts will retain the nameservers they were given when they were created unless modified.

Registering Private Nameservers

To be used as a nameserver, a domain must first be registered as a nameserver at the registrar, in addition to having an A record for each nameserver within the GreenGeeks DNS zone pointed to the same IP address.

If you registered the domain through GreenGeeks, here is the procedure to register the nameservers.

If you did not register the domain through GreenGeeks, log in to your domain registrar’s control panel and look for an advanced DNS setting called “Register DNS,” “private nameservers,” “personal nameservers,” etc. If you can’t find the setting, contact the registrar and let them know that you would like to set up private nameservers.

Setting the Default Nameservers in WHM

After your domain has been registered as a nameserver, and the A records created within the GreenGeeks DNS Zone,  log in to GreenGeeks and go to WHM by clicking the “WHM Login” button in the “Quick Server Login” section.

GreenGeeks dashboard click to log in to WHM

In the left navigation menu, click “Basic WebHost Manager® Setup.”

WHM custom nameservers step 1

  • Select “Explicitly Set the Nameservers.”
  • Enter the custom nameservers for your domain.
  • Click the “Save Changes” button.

WHM custom nameservers step 2

All newly added domains, or accounts, will now default to the new nameservers you’ve just set.

Updating Existing Domains

It’s important to remember that making these changes only affects future domains setups. Pre-existing domains will retain the nameservers they were given when they were created.

To modify existing domains, use the DNS Zone Manager in WHM to open the DNS Zone for that domain and modify the SOA & NS records to reflect the new nameservers.  Mismatched SOA & NS records may cause DNS resolution errors.

Contact the GreenGeeks Technical Support team if you need assistance updating existing SOA or NS records for your domains.

If you don’t want to split an account yourself, remember that GreenGeeks offers website migration for just $15 per site. Please open a ticket in GreenGeeks to request migration.

This article will show you how to split an Addon domain to its own cPanel account. Splitting an Addon domain to its own cPanel account is useful for, among others, Ecosite customers who have upgraded to a reseller or VPS web hosting account.

Download the existing content to your computer

Smaller sites can be archived using the cPanel File Manager.

For larger websites, use an FTP client to download the Addon domain directory (located in the /public_html directory) to your local computer.

cPanel split add on domain to its own account - step 1

Download email directories

If you have email accounts on your Addon domain, go up one level from /public_html to / (your home directory) and download the “etc” and “email” directories.

If you don’t have any email accounts on your Addon domain that you need to copy,  you can skip this step.

cPanel split add on domain to its own account - step 2

MySQL Databases

In addition to the files, most websites depend on a backend MySQL database that contains most of the content for the site, along with any configuration settings.

To do a complete migration, it’s necessary to copy over the existing MySQL DB to the destination account.

How to export databases using phpMyAdmin

Method 1: Access phpMyAdmin from GreenGeeks Dashboard

After logging into the GreenGeeks Dashboard, click on the Manage button next to the hosting account, either on the GreenGeeks Dashboard home page, or the Hosting management tab.

Dashboard Hosting Management button

On the Hosting Account Management page in the Dashboard, select the Database drop-down menu, and click on the phpMyAdmin link.

GreenGeeks Dashboard PHPMyAdmin button

Method 2: Access phpMyAdmin from cPanel

Log in to GreenGeeks and go to cPanel by clicking the “cPanel Login” button in the “Quick Server Login” section.

cPanel Quick Server Login button

In the “DATABASES” section, click the “phpMyAdmin” link or icon.

cPanel select section DATABASES phpmyadmin

phpMyAdmin Export MySQL Database

Inside of PHPMyAdmin, select the database you would like to export and click the “Export” tab at the top of the page.

Click the “Go” button to download a .SQL dump of database to your local computer.

phpMyAdmin export database

Large MySQL databases dumps should be exported using the CLI mysqldump tool as this is more reliable for large files.

Remove the Addon domain

Instructions for removing Addon domains

Create the new cPanel Account

Instructions for creating a new cPanel account.

Upload the website files, mail, and etc folder

Upload the copy of your website files that you downloaded to your computer to the new /pubic_html folder.

If there are email accounts to be copied, upload the mail and etc folders to / (your home directory).

phpMyAdmin Import MySQL Database

Before you can import a copy of your website database (if you have one) into the new account, you first have to create a new, empty database in the new account (here are instructions for creating a new database in cPanel).

Once you’ve created the new empty database, go to the “DATABASES” section of cPanel and click the “phpMyAdmin” link or icon.

In phpMyAdmin, select the new empty database and click the “Import” tab.

cPanel split add on domain to its own account - step 7

Click the “Choose File” button, select the downloaded copy of the database on your computer.

cPanel split add on domain to its own account - step 8

Click the “Go” button to import the database.

cPanel split add on domain to its own account - step 9

Large MySQL databases dumps should be imported using the CLI mysql client as this is more reliable for large files.

Update configuration files

For websites that depend on a MySQL database, in addition to the MySQL database there are configuration file(s) that will need to be updated to reflect the new MySQL database details and other changed variables such as the file paths.

The exact configuration file(s) to be updated depends on the type of  Website; for WordPress sites the wp-config.php is the file to be updated with new database information.

Once the MySQL database information is updated in the configuration file, you’re all set and the website migration is complete.

Migration Assistance

The GreenGeeks Technical Support team is unable to assist with the customer migrations beyond basic troubleshooting.

If you need assistance with a website migration, GreenGeeks offers a migration service and we can complete the whole process for you, for a nominal fee.

Refer to the related Support Article for information about the GreenGeeks Migration Policy.

This article will show you how to configure your eNom Reseller account with Clientexec at GreenGeeks.

This article will provide the basics to get you started. There are many available options and covering them all is beyond the scope of the article. We suggest consulting the Clientexec documentation for more detailed information.

To get your eNom account started, please open a ticket in GreenGeeks with the subject “eNom Reseller Request.”

Once your eNom account has been created and you have a username and password, log in to Clientexec and go to “Settings,” “Plugins” and click “Registrars.”

connect enom to clientexec step 1

On the “Registrars Plugins” page, select eNom from the drop-down, enter your eNom username and password and click the “Update Settings” button.

connect enom to clientexec step 2

Go to “Settings,” “Products” and click “Products.”

connect enom to clientexec step 3

Click the red button under “Domain Services (Domain)” to create your first Product. (To add a domain Product after you have existing products, you will click the “Domain Services (Domain)” link, then click “Add New Product.”)

connect enom to clientexec step 5

Complete the Domain Service information

TLD – the extension of the domain you wish to offer.
Signup Order – this will come into play when you have more than one TLD set up, then you’ll use it to determine in which order the TLDs are presented.
Welcome Email – choose the type of email that will be sent to the customer.
Checkboxes – you will want to check the boxes for “Show in signup form?” and “Send welcome email?” We do not recommend checking “Automatically Activate Package?” since you should check your initial domain registrations for fraud before processing them.

Click the “Save Changes” button.

connect enom to clientexec step 6

When the Domain Service is added, three new tabs will become visible: “Pricing,” “Addons,” and “Advanced & Plugin Settings.”

Pricing

On the “Pricing” tab, click the “Add Period” button.

connect enom to clientexec step 7

In the “TLD Setup Window” enter the prices for new domain registration (“Price”), transfer in (“Transfer”) and “Renew” for each period. Available Periods are One Time and 1 Year to 10 Years. Entering pricing for each period allows you to discount longer registration periods if you choose to do so.

Click the “Submit” button to save the pricing, and repeat for each registration period you wish to offer.

connect enom to clientexec step 8

Click the “Advanced & Plugin Settings” tab.

connect enom to clientexec step 9

Select “eNom” from the “Registrar Plugin” drop-down.

That’s it. You’ve added eNom to Clientexec. Now you can add a “Domain Service” for each TLD you’d like to offer your customers.

This article will show you how to install the Clientexec billing system in your GreenGeeks Reseller web hosting account.

The first step is to request the Clientexec License. Contact a member of our Support Staff by opening a ticket in GreenGeeks, let us know that you’d like to activate your Clientexec license and which domain name you would like to use it on.

Installing Clientexec

When you receive our response to your support ticket confirming that Clientexec has been provisioned, you can install the program.

Log in to GreenGeeks and go to cPanel by clicking the “cPanel Login” button in the “Quick Server Login” section.

GreenGeeks dashboard click to log in to cPanel

Scroll down to the “SOFTACULOUS APPS INSTALLER” section and click the “E-Commerce” icon or link (you may have to scroll side to side to get to the link).

cPanel Clientexec installation step 1

Enter “Clientexec” in the search field and click the link that appears under “E-Commerce.”

cPanel Clientexec installation step 2

Click the “Install Now” button.

cPanel Clientexec installation step 3

Complete the configuration for the installation.

  • Choose Protocol – if you have installed an SSL certificate and configured your site to use HTTPS, choose that from the drop-down. Otherwise, choose HTTP.
  • Choose Domain – the domain where you want to install Clientexec.
  • In Directory – if you wish to install Clientexec in a directory such as “admin” or “billing,” enter the directory name here. The directory should not already exist. If it does, delete it before running the Clientexec installation.
  • Company Name – the name that will be used throughout the Clientexec installation.
  • Admin Email – the email used to log in to Clientexec.
  • Admin Password – the password used to log in to Clientexec.
  • Click the “Install” button (or click the “Advanced Options” link, see below)

cPanel Clientexec installation step 4

Advanced Options:

  • Database Name – limited to seven characters.
  • Disable Update Notifications Emails – controls whether you receive email notifications of available updates to the software.
  • Auto Upgrade – controls whether the software is automatically upgraded when updates are available.
  • Backup Location – Softaculous can back up the Clientexec installation inside your reseller account, this controls where those backups are stored.
  • Automated backups – if you choose to make automated backups, the files will be added to a location in your account, so be aware that this option can significantly increase your disc space usage.
  • Backup Rotation – controls how many different versions of the backup files can be retained.
  • Click the “Install” button.

cPanel Clientexec installation step 5

If everything goes according to plan after you click the “Install” button, you will see a “Congratulations, the software was installed successfully” message. Click the “Administrative URL” link in that message and log in using the Admin Email and Admin Password you specified in the setup and click the “Sign In” button.

cPanel Clientexec installation step 6

You should now be logged in successfully.

There will be a couple of other configuration requirements once you’ve logged in, “Create Products,” and “Configure Payment Plugin.”

cPanel Clientexec installation step 7

Here is an article that will help you create products.

Configuring a payment plugin can be an involved process, so we refer you to the Clientexec tutorials for further information.
